Morningtide Motel Character Designs
One of the most challenging aspects of designing the characters for Morningtide Motel was getting the physical ancestral traits (for example, dragon wings) to read like they were a natural part of the character and an extension of their personality, rather than feel out of place. I asked myself how these people would modify these traits for cosmetic and practical purposes, as the game setting is closer to the real world rather than the fantasy or folklore worlds their ancestries are derived from.
Each character also has a personal story that can be discovered through their dialogue, and we wanted to exemplify both this and their personalities through their designs. I worked closely with the Narrative Designer and Art Director to make sure I was portraying these characters as genuinely as possible, and implemented feedback and annotations I received into my work.
